Deadline for students and families to finalize/adjust course requests

Skyward

- Students should attend the EWHS Electives fair on February 5th and 6th during lunch in the Cafe area.  Students will be able to learn more about the many elective courses being offered at EWHS next year (there are some new courses).

- Counselors will visit English, History, and Advisory classes throughout February and March to provide students with information about classes and instructions on how to register. Students will also have an opportunity to begin adding their course requests to their Skyward account.

- After the counselor presentation in English/History classes, counselors will visit each student over the next few weeks for a brief, individualized planning meeting about their class choices. The student and their counselor will create a full preliminary list of the student’s class choices at that meeting.

- After the individual counselor meeting, students and parents have the "final say" about which classes the student will register for.  Skyward will allow students or parents to make changes to their course requests through March 19th. Online access for course requests will close on March 19th  at 3:00 PM.

Message to Families: Please review each of the following information in order to make informed decisions about course requests for next year:

1) The registration presentation with information about graduation requirements, college admissions requirements, registration policies/procedures, counselor contact information, and how to enter course requests into Skyward (click here for a link to the presentation)

2) The student's current grades in Skyward (please contact the counseling center at 425-431-7915 if you do not know your Skyward username/password)

3) The student's graduation requirements tab in Skyward (an example of this tab in Skyward is shown in the registration presentation)

4) The one-page course offerings sheet and the in-depth Curriculum Guide with explanations of all courses offered (click here for the one-page course offerings sheet and Edmonds-Woodway High School 2019-2020 Curriculum Guide for the webpage with the curriculum guide)

5) Please use the EWHS registration planning sheet to help you ensure you have the correct course requests in the correct areas (click here for the planning sheet)

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Stay tuned throughout February and March for specific email reminders regarding registration.

Respectfully,

Dr. Terrance Mims

EWHS Principal

How to Register For Classes

Each year students are asked to select courses they wish to take for the next school year. Careful thought should be given to course selection as fall offerings are dependent upon student pre-registration in the spring.

  • Review graduation requirements
  • Use the course planning sheet to help make correct class selections
  • Students take six credit bearing classes per semester
  • Current 9th – 11th grade will request courses online. Current 8th grade (incoming 9th) will complete paper requests. An additional handout will be available during registration.

Schedule Change Policy and Procedures

All students choose courses each spring for the following school year through the pre-registration process. The courses students choose at that time are the basis for the final selection of courses to be offered. Careful thought must be given to class choices during pre-registration to ensure appropriate course offerings and sections the following year.

  • Once a computer-generated schedule is created, schedules will only be corrected under the following conditions:
  • Graduation deficiency—must repeat a requirement
  • Seniors—graduation requirement omitted
  • Duplicate period—2 or more classes for one period
  • Misplacement (Teacher determines incorrect course level or prerequisite)
  • Sections added to/deleted from Master Schedule

Drop Policy

After the fifth (5th) school day of a semester, classes may be dropped but no new classes may be added. Only Teacher Assistants may be added after this time. Classes may be dropped up to ten days into the semester without penalty. Classes dropped after the first 10 days of the semester will be reflected on the transcript with an "F" grade regardless of current grade. Students transferring classes may be required to make up any missed assignments and attendance will continue to the new class.

Incoming Freshman

Incoming freshman (currently in 8th grade) - Enrollment forms are available in early March for students currently enrolled in a private school in our service area. Please stop by the Counseling office as of March 1st between 8 am - 2 pm. Visitor badges are required if you are on campus during school hours. Stop at the main office or attendance office to sign in.

Course selection forms will be available at that time and must be returned by mid-March.

Students already attending an Edmonds School District middle school do not need enrollment paperwork. Class registration forms and information will be brought to your middle school or turned in to Edmonds-Woodway High School by March 9.
