Resume Writing
What Is a Résumé (CV)?
A résumé is a short, professional document that highlights your experiences, skills, achievements, and education. It gives colleges, employers, scholarship committees, and volunteer organizations a quick overview of who you are and what you’ve accomplished. A résumé helps you make a strong first impression and shows that you’re ready for new opportunities.
Why Do Students Need a Résumé?
Even in high school, a résumé is an important tool. You may need one when applying for:
-
Part-time jobs or internships
-
Scholarships and special programs
-
Leadership opportunities, clubs, or volunteer positions
-
College applications that request or allow supplemental documents
Having a résumé prepared early also helps you keep track of what you’ve done throughout high school—making future applications much easier.
High School & Beyond Plan Requirement
As part of Washington State’s High School & Beyond Plan graduation requirement, all students must upload a current résumé to Naviance. This ensures you’re able to organize your accomplishments and present them professionally when new opportunities come up.
