World Language

Welcome to the World Language Department!

Bienvenue!   Welcome!   欢 迎 huan ying!   welcome sign language.png   ¡Bienvenidos!

The World Language department at Edmonds-Woodway High School prepares students to thrive in a globally connected world, developing cultural understanding and proficiency in the skills of speaking, listening, reading, writing, and sign (ASL).  Students are empowered to have a growth mindset as they take risks using their target language in a safe, collaborative environment.  Language classes are challenging, engaging and interactive, as we facilitate authentic experiences that bring the target culture to life in the classroom.

At Edmonds-Woodway we offer courses in Mandarin Chinese, French, Spanish, and American Sign Language.  As part of the International Baccalaureate program, students taking Chinese, French and Spanish have the option to prepare for IB assessments and earn college credit.  American Sign Language students may earn college and CTE credits.  We want students to be successful in their language learning at EW!  If students have prior experience in the language, our department teachers are happy to work with them to determine proper placement for their language class.  Learning a new language is a valuable skill that builds meaningful community connections and provides opportunities for professional and personal development.  We look forward to welcoming students to our learning community.
