Dear Parents/Guardians,

In the Edmonds School District Certificated Nurses are at district high schools two days a week. Office staff at the schools have been trained to provide health care to students with minor injuries and illness.

For students who have more complex health needs they follow Inpidual Health Plans, Emergency Care Plans and Life Threatening Care Plans that are in place for students identified as needing nurse consultation, when to call 911 for assistance, etc.

The Edmonds School District Health Services Department has a website. The link is listed at left. There you will find a description of what school nurses do, medication policies and find frequently used forms that can be downloaded.

Medication Policy at EWHS and MDH:

Students may self-carry and self-administer one daily dose of over the counter medication such as ibuprofen or Tylenol without written authorization. Students may self-carry prescribed oral medication upon written authority and instructions from a parent and with a signed and dated verification and written directions from a licensed physician or dentist.

All self-carried medications must be carried in the original container. Designated school personnel in the Main Office may administer prescribed oral medication and over the counter medications such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen on a scheduled basis upon written authority and instructions from a parent and with a signed and dated verification and written directions from a licensed physician or dentist. Health Information about your student that may be important for teachers, counselors and other staff members to know is communicated through Skyward and this information may be viewed by parents and students. Examples of these conditions are asthma, allergies, chronic health or mental health conditions that may affect learning due to symptoms and treatment. If this information needs to be updated please contact me with new or pertinent information so that I may be aware of potential needs.
